Burst heating pipes
Posted on Jan 4th, 2010
Again this year, a thermostat was turned off and pipes in a 3rd floor heating closet broke causing heating issues in the building. Gene is currently working aggressively to restore any existing heating issues.
If you are experiencing an issue with the heat in your unit, please contact Lori at the concierge desk. The phone number is 847-788-8209.
This problem can be avoided. DO NOT shut off your thermostat!! You should leave it set at a minimum of 70 degrees so that hot water can circulate through the pipes which will prevent them from freezing. Please remember that the costs associated with repairing the coils and the water damage is significant and is the responsibility of the unit owner causing the damage.
As an added protection the Association is purchasing small thermostatic heaters for each heater closet. These will come on automatically if the temperature in the closet gets too low for any reason. They will be delivered today and installed by Briarwood employees in units where someone is home. Please do not remove or adjust these heaters. These are for your protection. They will be picked up at the end of the heating season. If you are not home during the day, please see the concierge to pick up a heater and instructions for its use.
If you have any questions, please contact Briarwood Management at 773-334-7005.
